Relaxation is a necessity that many people do not take for granted in this fast paced world. Many women and increasingly many more men have discovered that a ‘rendezvous’ at their local spa is one of the easiest and luxurious ways to relieve stress and to unwind. Spas usually offer a range of treatments but for the truly relaxing spa experience, there are three treatments that everyone should try.
Body Scrubs and Body Wraps
Body scrubs & wraps have been popular for more than 50 years and are often used as slimming or body cleansing treatments. During recent years they have become an integral part of body detoxification and re-energising, accepted by medical insurance in a number of European countries.
Usually a qualified beauty practitioner prepares and applies the wrap depending on your requirements and the professional assessment. The scrubs diversify from mixtures of salt and plants to crushed corals and fruit seeds with essential oils. If you wish to hydrate the skin then lotions or phytotherapeutic products will be used. If you wish to eliminate toxins from the body then seaweed or natural mud may be used. The actual wrapping of the body is done with a special plastic sheet. Once the whole body is wrapped, it is usually covered with towels and then enclosed in a heated spa blanket for additional effect particularly slimming body wraps. After typically 20 minutes of being wrapped the aesthetician removes the wrappings and rinses the body. A luxury spa would always propose a specific massage or even a series of massages during the whole experience.
Facials
Facials are generally a visit card of any spa. They vary enormously from classic treatments that consist of cleansing, exfoliation, massage and moisturizing or nourishing mask to cellular rejuvenating, boosting natural processes of collagen and elastin reproduction and hormones replenishment. The latest ones are generally the most detailed, the most expensive and the most luxurious in Europe and compete directly with injections.
Not all facials are so detailed, many spas offer specific targeted facials such as teen facials to reduce acne or men’s facials to minimise razor bumps on the face and radiance facials to even the skin tone and to brighten the skin.
Massages
Massages are the most intimate treatment because they require the client to be nude and for hand to body contact between the masseuse and client. Massages are an enjoyable experience that leaves the body relaxed and revived. Popular massages include back muscular tension release, full body revitalising or deep relaxation ayurvedic massages and Swedish (sport) massages. In Switzerland, you would get a medical insurance reimbursement for these treatments which become a part of the professional medispa.
Whether an avid spa-goer or a newbie looking for a new way to relax, seeking out spa treatments can be a great way to do so. They can be something relaxing for one person, a way to rekindle a romance with couple treatments or enjoyed during a girl’s night out. No matter what the occasion, spa treatments are a must if pampering your body is your relaxation goal.
It is a popular trend now to install Spas in the city centres. Yet, for a truly relaxing, healing and professional pampering, higher service and immaculate hygiene Spas are rare and recommendations go by word of mouth.
